We Just Can't Catch a Break.
So, here's a fun little story...I woke up this morning in quite a bit of constant pain, along with contraction pain - which was really irregular. Then after trying to eat a muffin for breakfast, I had a violent little bout of vomiting, which left my throat bleeding. I called my midwife and she wanted me to head into the hospital to get checked out just to be safe. Wahoo, that's my favorite thing. My mom came to watch the girls, and Luke and I headed out the door. It was raining really badly, so we were driving a little slower than normal (about 30mph) as we approached the intersection of 300 South and University Avenue in Provo. The light was green as we proceeded through the intersection, when some guy just turned right in front of us. Even if it wasn't raining, we wouldn't have had time to stop. The front passenger corner of our car slammed into the back passenger door of his car. I instinctively covered my belly with my arms and raised my legs to help protect my baby. My knees slammed hard into the dash board, and my seat belt worked so well, it felt like someone had punched me in the chest. Luke was okay enough to yell, "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?" I was shaking, badly. We pulled one way out of the intersection, and the other driver pulled down another street. We called 911 and in about 3 minutes some cops and an ambulance showed up. They were asking me questions that I had a hard time answering because I was shaking and crying so hard. After assessing the damage to our car, and to us, they loaded us in an ambulance and called for a tow truck. My first ambulance ride was not so fun. Every bump felt like a knife in my abdomen. Luke it turns out, was totally fine, he is having a little back pain now, which we have no idea if it's related to the accident or the immense stress we are under. We get to the hospital and apparently, all of the mean people are working on Saturday. The nurse who checked me was not pleasant and did so in a semi-violent manner. That was fun. And maybe it was coincidence that the ultrasound tech was never told that I was there for abdominal pain, as he jabbed me in the belly repeatedly - totally uncaring about me crying out in pain or the tears running down my face. We were there for 4 hours. Because that is apparently the law for pregnant women who have been in a car accident. (?) I was in a lot of pain, and had a lot of very big contractions. Unfortunately, there was no rhyme or reason to it. A week ago (HAHA, last time I was at the hospital, this sure is getting old!) I was barely dialated at all, I was 1.5 cm today - a super awesome leap forward - not. Amidst all of this enjoyment, a cop showed up to get Luke's statement and to give him the other guys insurance information, since it was of course his fault. And since our car was out of commission, perhaps forever, we needed a rental car from them. Oops, its Saturday and no one is around until Monday. Yeah. You can imagine the thoughts running through my head about going into actual labor and not being able to get to the hospital. Scary! Luckily, my AWESOME mother in law, lent us her car for the weekend, and we can get all set up on Monday. And then begin the arduous process of everything involved in a car accident. We finally got home and I am still having the same kinds of pain and contractions as before. So, unless something changes or gets worse, this is shaping up to be one fun, very uneventful rest of the weekend.
